School essay

Hi, we are representing Eagles Peak charter school .We want to make our school better because we want to make our school funner and a great place to learn. Our first idea was to have snack and water breaks in between classes. We want this because kids need food to keep them energy leveled. We also think we should have more sports equipment so that we can have our daily need of exercise. We think that it’s important to have air conditioning in the class because some kids cant thing when there hot tired and sweaty.
Also we would like more class equipment because kids will stay focused and it will be a funner way to learn. The next thing we would like is more elective classes. We want this so that kids will like school more, get motivated, and so kids like elective classes. We would like some grass and a playground because first of all, grass would prevent kids from getting hurt, and a playground so that kids will have more fun at school. The next thing we would like next is more landscape. We would like this because flowers and trees make people get more attracted to the school and so our school will look prettier. The next thing is that we should have after school care and clubs because first of all kids cant be picked up at the right time and so that kids wont get bored.
Fundraisers are good for the school because it helps raise money for our school. After school tutors are very much needed. We need this so that kids that need help get help, and so that kids get a better education.
Thank you for talking the time to read some of the things that are important to our school!

Non-Fiction Summary Due November 21st: Plastic Munching Microbes

This article is about a new way to recycle.

If you just throw away your empty plastic water bottle it doesn't really get recycled. That is because the type of plastic used to make your water bottles is made out of PET. PET is recycled into a low quality plastic, so your bottle isn't really going to become anything any time soon.

Luckily some researchers found a way to make PET more useful or valuable type of plastic that is called PHA , which is biodegradable. By heating the low quality plastic,PET, it produces three breakdown products, most important is the solid called TA. The researchers also found bacteria that ate TA. Some scientists wanted to make sure that the bacteria fed on TA, so they studied soil from a bottle making company. They found the bacteria feeding on PET that had likely been contaminated by TA during the bottle making process. Scientists have never found bacteria that both fed on TA and produced TA. Now we are a step farther to helping our earth!

Non- Fiction summary Due November 21st: Lighting Goes Digital

This article is telling how digital make light bulbs will help save energy.

When we turn on lights in our house keeping them lit uses 10 percent of all the electricity we use in our house, that is because incandescent light bulbs are very inefficient, only 5 percent of energy goes into creating light. The rest is wasted heat. LEDs are 20 to 50 percent efficient , so they save a huge amount of energy. Researchers estimate that in more that ten years, LEDs could cut the energy used for lighting in half.

OLEDs are organic LEDs. They are created at room temperature, which is cheaper than LEDs. OLEDs can be put on any material, like paper or fabric. They are also great for our environment.

Mr. Rachlin’s Homework 09
A Sphinx

Close-mouthed you sat five thousand years and never let out a whisper.
Processions came by, marchers, asking questions you answered with grey eyes never blinking, shut lips never talking.
Not one croak of anything you know has come from your cat crouch of ages.
I am one of those who know all you know and I keep my questions: I know the answers you hold.

Poem analysis Worksheet

1. What words or phrases are repeated? Why does the poet repeat these words?

You, your is repeated because if they weren’t the poem wouldn’t make sense.

2. What images (using any of the five senses) does the poet use.
“Processions came by, marchers, asking questions you answered with grey eyes never blinking, shut lips never talking.” sight.

3. Explain the metaphors.
“Close-mouthed you sat five thousand years and never let out a whisper.”
This means that you sat there for a long time never talking.

4. Is there a regular rhythm?
No there’s not a regular rhythm.

Is there regular rhyme?
There’s no rhyming either.
How do rhythm and/or rhyme affect the poem?
Well since there’s none I think that it affects the poem because you just read it at your own pace. Carl Sandburg just wants you to read it.
5. What is the theme or message of the poem? Use text examples from each stanza.

The message/theme of this story is about a Sphinx who knows a lot of things but doesn’t share them. He just stays quiet all the time never sharing the important information that he knows.

Evidence from each stanza:
a} Close-mouthed you sat five thousand years and never let out a whisper.
b} Not one croak of anything you know has come from your cat crouch of ages.

6. Write you reaction (what you liked or didn't like, agreed or disagreed with)
I liked this poem, because it was interesting. I liked the way Carl Sandburg talked about how the sphinx never shared any knowledge that it knew. I think the topic was interesting also.

Many birds and the beating of wings
Make a flinging reckless hum
In the early morning at the rocks
Above the blue pool
Where the gray shadows swim lazy.

In your blue eyes, O reckless child,
I saw today many little wild wishes,
Eager as the great morning.

Carl Sandburg Essay

Carl Sandburg
By Illianna Gonzalez-Soto

Carl Sandburg is a quiet mysterious poet. His poems are free from noise. They are very still. In each poem he writes, his messages are different. Some poets write the same message for their poems, but Carl Sandburg has more variety.

Autumn Movement is one of his more quiet poems. He writes, “ I cried over beautiful things knowing no beautiful thing lasts.” This poem talks about how know beautiful thing lasts. No matter what you want, nothing lasts forever. This poem is very powerful.

Autumn Movement is very different from A Sphinx, which is quiet, but mysterious. “Close-mouthed you sat five thousand years and never let out a whisper”, he writes. This poem talks about how if you know all the things in the world, doesn’t mean you have to share them.

Another poem that is gentle, is Between Two Hills. In this poem he writes, “ The prayers are said and the people rest.” It is a very quiet poem. It’s about a perfect little town that everyone wants to live in. It is paradise.
Margaret is also one of Carl Sandburg’s more peaceful poems. Carl Sandburg writes, “ In your blue eyes O reckless child I saw today many wild wishes.” I think he is talking about one of his relatives, who is very curious. This poem is very calm.

Bas-Relief is one poem that has more noise.
“Each charged with the honor of the ancient goose nation,” he writes. You can tell straight out that this poem is not quiet. This poem is about five geese who are sent out to war. It is very interesting.

Carl Sandburg writes quiet, but powerful poems. In each poem he writes, his messages are different, but strong. He is a wonderful poet, and I highly recommend him.
