1. Original 13 colonies- America declared independence in 1776 when they wrote the Declaration of Independence.

2.Treaty of Paris- was given to us when we won the Revolutionary War.

3.Louisiana Purchase- Bought from France because France didn’t need it any more and they needed money for the war with Britain.

4.Florida- People from Florida were raiding Georgia farms so James Monroe sent Andrew Jackson to set them straight. Instead he raids Florida and takes over military camps. James Monroe sent a letter to Spain saying govern Florida right or get out. So Spain got out and gave it to America.

5.Texas- Moses Austin started a colony in Spanish Texas but then he died so is son, Stephen, took over. Then Mexico became independent from Spain. Mexico made Stephen follow certain laws. The colony grew and they started to complain so Mexico closed itself from immigrants. Stephen wanted to talk about these issues the Mexican leader, Santa Anna. Santa Anne through Stephan in jail and when he got out rebellions started. General Sam Houston defeated Santa Anne’s and took him captive. In return for his life Texas became independent. After a long debate Texas was annexed into the United States.

6.Oregon Country- Four nations clamed Oregon- Russian, Spain, Britain, and the United States. Soon only Britain and the U.S were left. Polk got elected because he wanted Oregon. Britain wanted Oregon too so they split it in half.

7.Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo- The United Sates and Mexico were at war. Polk wanted more land from Mexico. General Kearny took New Mexico and California. Then American troops took Mexico City. The U.S and Mexico made a treat called the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo. Mexico gave half of its territories to the U.S for 15 million dollars.
