I think that we do need special programs for girls in science and math because that way that way they can become better at science and math. Because some girls have less natural talent also another reason is that girls aren’t that interested because most women are stay at home moms. And in classes they get interrupted easily by boys and that’s why they need the programs so they can become self confidence. They also don’t really like what happens in the classes especially in science class. People also say that they don’t have that much ability; I disagree because I think that girls have the same abilities that guys have. Also people say that math and science is more important for boys than for girls. But according to a study women are pressured by their families. (Because they expect more on men in science and math).

African-American teenagers are beset on all sides by dangerous myths about race. The most poisonous one defines middle-class normalcy and achievement as "white," while embracing violence, illiteracy and drug dealing as "authentically" black. This fiction rears its head from time to time in films and literature. But it finds its most virulent expression in rap music, which started out with a broad palette of themes but has increasingly evolved into a medium for worshiping misogyny, materialism and murder.
This dangerous narrowing of hip-hop music would be reason for concern in any case. But it is especially troubling against the backdrop of the 1990's, when rappers provoked a real-world gang war by using recordings and music videos to insult and threaten rivals. Two of the music's biggest stars - Tupac Shakur and the Notorious B.I.G. - were eventually shot to death.
People who pay only minimal attention to the rap world may have thought the killings would sober up the rap community. Not quite. The May cover of the hip-hop magazine Vibe was on the mark when it depicted fallen rappers standing among tombstones under the headline: "Hip-Hop Murders: Why Haven't We Learned Anything?"
The cover may have been prompted in part by a rivalry between two rappers that culminated in a shootout at a New York radio station, Hot 97, earlier this spring. The events that led up to the shooting show how recording labels now exploit violence to make and sell recordings.
At the center of that Hot 97 shootout was none other than 50 Cent, whose given name is Curtis Jackson III. Mr. Jackson is a confessed former drug dealer who seems to revel in the fact that he was shot several times while dealing in Queens. He has also made a career of "beef" recordings, in which he whips up controversy and heightens tension by insulting rival artists.
He was following this pattern in a radio interview in March when a rival showed up at the station. The story's murky, but it appears that the rival's entourage met Mr. Jackson's on the street, resulting in gunfire.
Mr. Jackson's on-air agitation was clearly timed to coincide with the release of "The Massacre," his grotesquely violent and misogynist compact disc. The CD cover depicts the artist standing before a wall adorned with weapons, pointing what appears to be a shotgun at the camera. The photographs in the liner notes depict every ghetto stereotype - the artist selling drugs, the artist in a gunfight - and includes a mock autopsy report that has been seen as a covert threat aimed at some of his critics.
The "Massacre" promotion raises the ante in a most destructive way. New artists, desperate for stardom, will say or do anything to win notice - and buzz - for their next projects. As the trend escalates, inner-city listeners who are already at risk of dying prematurely are being fed a toxic diet of rap cuts that glorify murder and make it seem perfectly normal to spend your life in prison.
Critics who have been angered by this trend have pointed at Jimmy Iovine, the music impresario whose Interscope Records reaped millions on gangster rap in the 90's. Mr. Iovine makes a convenient target as a white man who is lording over an essentially black art form. But also listed on "The Massacre" as an executive producer is the legendary rapper Dr. Dre, a black man who happens to be one of the most powerful people in the business. Dr. Dre has a unique vantage point on rap-related violence. He was co-founder of Death Row Records, an infamous California company that marketed West Coast rap in the 1990's and had a front-row seat for the feud that led to so much bloodshed back then.
The music business hopes to make a financial killing on a recently announced summer concert tour that is set to feature 50 Cent and the mega-selling rap star Eminem. But promoters will need to make heavy use of metal detectors to suppress the kind of gun-related violence that gangster artists celebrate. That this lethal genre of art has grown speaks volumes about the industry's greed and lack of self-control.
But trends like this reach a tipping point, when business as usual becomes unacceptable to the public as a whole. Judging from the rising hue and cry, hip-hop is just about there.

Girls need programs to get them excited about math and science. A study show that girls don't have self-confidence in these subjects. Another study shows that girls say, "I can do it, I just don't want to." Schools need to give girls self-confidence to get on performing in these subjects.
If a school can have an after school program or tutor, a girl may want to focus more in these subjects. I think it’s important that all the students have laptops. This way, they can work on classwork and homework anywhere. Kids also learn better on computers. This is why all the students should have laptops.
If every student had a laptop, they can work on classwork and homework anywhere. Even though the students will have to carry them from class to class, the Netbooks are very light. It is much easier to open a laptop or Netbook than have to go to the lab. It is also more efficient and that saves a lot of time. Also, all of the laptops or Netbooks could have the same software as the computers in the lab.

I think the most important function of school is giving knowledge to students because to be successful at anything, you need to know math, science, English, and so on. Some people think you don’t need math or science to play sports, but you do. For example, a basketball player needs to know the perfect angle to make it in at least 50% of the time. Another reason is that it’s very affordable. These are just two of the many reasons why our school should provide a hot lunch program at our school.

If you were asked one thing to benefit your school, what would you choose? My answer would be more teachers. Why you ask? Simple, more teachers would mean more diverse subjects, such as health, biology and oceanography. The classroom sizes could be smaller, thus, making it easier to manage and giving us better one-on-one instruction. I gave it a 3 because the It wasn’t really that big of a fight, King George III just had to draw a line to keep the colonists and Native Americans from fighting.

I gave this one a 2 because all they did was charge taxes on stamps because they were running out of money.

This one is a 1 because the colonists just had to provide the troops with necessities.
The Townshend Act
I gave this one a 4 because the colonists already had to pay stamp taxes and Charlie Townshend made them pay more taxes for all goods.
Boston Massacre
This one is a 4 because the colonists rioted the same day the Townshend act came out many were injured and some died.

I say this one is a 2 because Lord North taxed the tea and only merchants could sell bargain tea. At least the colonists could still get tea.

I gave this one a 5 because the colonists rebelled against the taxed tea and threw all of the transported tea into the Ocean.

I rate this one a 5 because the colonists were punished for the Boston Tea Party. There were 3 laws. The first law closed Boston harbor from shipping tea. The 2nd law was that Massachusetts was under British control. The 3rd law said that the British soldiers that were accused for murder would be tried in England.

I gave this one a 2 because It was just a meeting with the colonists and Britain so they could get King George to consider their complaints and recognize their rights.

I gave this one a 4 because a spy told England that the colonists were hiding weapons and gunpowder. The general ordered 700 troops to go fight the colonists. They fought and many colonists died or got injured.

Where are the Women in Math & Science
There are more men in math and science than women. This needs to change. But wy? And more importantly, how? Is it because professors tend to favor male students? That confendence is laking for women and girls in these areas? Their parents' inflence? Or that they see that, other than teaching, science and math jobs are widely solitary, rather than socail.
Some say the reason haveless natural talent. This may or may not be true, but if it is, it means that the women who are in science and math had to work arder then the mena nd are more dedicated.
Studys and servays show that professers favored male students and their learning styles. They call on them more often, and when women are called on at all, they aew interupted by men.
Studys by the Univesty of Wisconsin Milwalukee (UWM) says self-confidence from parents and teachers is imporant for young girls' interest. Ateention should be given to building confindence in the abilities early in their education.
"The relationship between confidence and interest is close," says UWM Professer Nadya Fouad. "If they feel they can do it, it feeds their interest."
Many girls see science and math as difficult, annd don't take any more classes than they have to. They don't realize they are cutting themselves off from opportunties in college and careers. And of course, old stereotypes die slowly. Boys and girls both say that boys are stronger at math and science.
Parents' influence their daughters' interest in math. Parents provide more math-supportive emviroment fo their sons than for their daughters. Their attitudes, particularly stereotypes they had about whether math and science were more important for boys than for girls, have a signficant effect on their children's later math and science achiechvement, and even on their eventul career choices.
Girls steer away from careers in math & science because they view them as a solitary rather than social job.
"In order to increase the number of women in science, we also need to make younf women more interested in these fields, and that means making them aware that science is a social endeaver that involoves working with people." says Jacqelynne Eccles, a senior research professer at the University of Michigan (UM) for Insititute Socail Research and the UM Institute for Reasearch on Women and Gender.

What makes a Ancient Civilization - Jose
A civilization is a complex society or a city. Sumer was one of the first civilizations or cities ever built. The question that has been asked is: what makes an ancient civilization? The characteristics of a civilization are: stable food supply, social structure, government, religion, arts, technology, and writing. If you compare our civilization with the Sumer civilization, they have the same characteristics. But, we do have characteristics that we do differently. In our government we don’t have kings or queens that would be in charge. Our arts have more technology such as computers. Our technology is more advanced than the Sumer’s technology. And, in most of our religions, we don’t believe in gods. So as you can see the Sumer’s civilization is different than our civilization, but we do have some characteristics that are the same, such as a stable food supply and writing. Without these civilizations, our civilization would be much different.

I think there is an absence of women in math and science because women are more suited with language and art skills which do not apply in math or science. Men think more mathematically and logically and both of those do apply in math and science. It is a fact that men are more mathematical than women. It is also a fact that women are more artistic and usually express it more than men do.
I also think there are fewer women in math and science because women may not find professions involving math and science as fulfilling as men do. Men use math and science in many of their professions. Professions including construction, plumbing, mechanic, and electrician need mathematics skill. I think that women would look for a career that would use their language and artistic skills. Or maybe when they were young their parents told them that math and science were for men. Also, maybe in school women were not called upon in class which discouraging them so they didn't pursuing a career in math or science .

I think that the main role of school is preparing students to earn a living.You dont want to go off unemployed. You have to take care of a family and provide for them.You also pay rent for your house. The basic skills that you learn in school can help you all through life.

Many have questioned what’s the function of school? Some people have different reasons but, I have my own. I interpret the main role of school as introducing a set of shared values. Why is it so important to learn about our democratic government? Well, we need to learn how to act and enjoy being a citizen of our country and learning our history. For example, our history of how our country was made has a big role in our life. The laws we made are fair and acceptable. Without laws, our country would be a crazy! That is why it’s important that the children of our country learn the laws and history. Our democratic government has a big role. Without the laws, we wouldn’t even have school. We need to keep our country safe, united, and fair. We need to analyze new ways to teach shared values in fun ways the children will enjoy. We need to keep shared values a function of school!
